WrapUp

Honda has earned a good reputation in Indian market and rightly so. Excellent space management, reliabilty and peace of mind comprehend the positive ownership experience.

Honda started its Indian innings with Honda City which was offered with two engine options, a 1.3 ltr. And a 1.5 ltr. Petrol engine. Already Honda was a well known brand in India commanding significant snob value. The launch of City just accentuated that brand value, City turned out to be smashing success, simply road rolling over a very competitive and impressive Maruti Baleno, luxurious Opel Astra and an agile Mitsubishi Lancer. Next few years saw Honda come up with Accord which was again a success. To its credit, Honda managed to thrive on petrol motors only until now.City underwent more than one generation change that signifies how important the model is for India. Currently in its 4th generation, City has dominated its segment and continues to do so. Honda has tasted limited success in small car segment where Honda had to discontinue Jazz and then re-launch next generation Jazz. Honda Civic also ruled its segment for a brief period, but was later discontinued. But Honda Civic once again proved that Honda makes excellent petrol motors which was awesome on open roads. Honda’s another’s hatchback, Honda Brio, also met with limited success, but Honda’s excellent space management proved that Honda has learnt the needs of Indian market via Brio based Compact Sedan, Honda Amaze. Amaze managed to have very good interior space and also a strong, very fuel efficient diesel. Sales number proved that Amaze is a success and just what the Indian buyer wants. On SUV front, Honda CRV is a petrol only SUV which is in second generation in India and has earned a very loyal fan following.Honda’s dealer network might be an area where pre-sales and post sales experience could do with improvement. The diesel motor from Honda also is bit noisy and improvements can be expected and are also seen in subsequent application of it after Honda City. Honda’s spares are also known to be on expensive side, but quality and reliablitly are amongst the industry best. In fact, as far as long term reliability goes, Honda is up there with the best, and competitors benchmark with Honda! Smart, spacious cars with quality and reliability, Honda has earned a handsome snob value and a well deserved reputation.
